普及Rizz一词的凯·塞纳特

Rizz聆听i/ˈrɪz/)这互联网用语在英语中为“Charisma”(魅力非凡)的缩写,有著“型格、魅力超然与令人著迷”的意思。尽管在口语中已有使用纪录,但该词直到2021年中期才走出非裔美国人社群的框架,而这都要归功于美国YouTuberTwitch实况主凯·塞纳特的广泛推广。Rizz凭此在社交媒体应用程式TikTok上爆红[1],并在2023年获牛津大学出版社选为年度单字英语Word of the year[2]

尽管阿法世代也有大量使用[7],但说Rizz的主要为Z世代[8]。该词随后进一步衍生出皆有“魅力四射的人”之意的“Rizzler”或“Rizz God”[9],以及指“不发一言便能吸引别人”的“Unspoken Rizz”[10]

该俚语在2021年中期开始因为Twitch实况主凯·塞纳特的关系而爆红,他会在直播上跟观众分享如何具有Rizz,并开发出诸如描述某人诱惑或与别人/暗恋对象聊天时能否成功的“W rizz”和“L rizz”[11]。两年后,塞纳特在播客节目《Adam22英语No Jumper》上表示自Rizz流行起来之后便不再使用它,并批评TikTok“残杀了”这单词[11]。该词在2023年6月因英国演员汤姆·赫兰德接受BuzzFeed访问后二度走红,还催出生许多迷因,他在节目上称自己的Rizz有限,是靠“放长线钓大鱼”的方式才交到同为演员的现女友赞达亚[12]

Rizz被牛津大学出版社选为2023年年度单字英语Word of the year[13][14]。之所以选择该词,个中原因在于它说明了语言在社群中形成、塑造和共享,然后在社会中被广泛接受的过程,亦表明年轻世代已经有能力去拥有和打造其独有语言。而随著Z世代对社会的影响越来越大,他们的观点和生活方式差异也会陆续显示在语言之中[13]。主审之一的卡斯珀·格拉思沃尔(Casper Grathwohl)指出尽管上一年的年度单字“哥布林模式英语Goblin mode”在COVID-19大流行期间引起许多人的共鸣,但能看到像Rizz那样截然不同的词汇脱颖而出仍是一件十分有趣的事。他补充说该俚语部分反映了人们开始对彼此敝开心扉,看看谁更有自信的2023年公众情绪。其使用率上升也引证网路文化的词语和短语“正逐渐成为日常用语的一部分”[13][14]
