背景

1979年伊朗伊斯蘭革命後，伊朗領導人認為以色列是非法的「猶太復國主義實體」，並指責以色列是美國的附庸國。[25]伊朗向黎巴嫩真主黨、[26]哈瑪斯和巴勒斯坦伊斯蘭聖戰運動等組織提供資金、武器，並培訓組織成員，讓他們對以色列發動襲擊。[27]

以色列一直反對伊朗的核計劃，並與美國等伊朗的敵國保持親密聯繫。[28]以色列不僅打擊與伊朗有關的目標[29][30]，對伊朗發動網路戰，並且呼籲各國一起對伊朗採取軍事行動。[31]

2024年，衝突短暫升級為兩國間的直接衝突，2025年6月更升級為兩國間的十二日戰爭。
