刺尾鯛目（學名：Acanthuriformes）為脊索動物門輻鰭魚綱的一目，在2017年Deepfin分類中設立，當時是只包含三科的小型目級分類^[4]^[5]。2021年起，新的合併方案使本目成了擁有50多科的大型目級分類，包含了傳統的鮟鱇目和魨形目。^[1]^[2]^[3]

最新的系統大概在2020年開始成型，一些分類學者如美國的托馬斯·J·尼爾（英語：Thomas J. Near）等人對Deepfin系統，提出了合併小型目的方案，以解決散佈在鱸形總目演化支中眾多孤立的目級地位未定科。而在此方案中，刺尾鯛目擴大成了54科的大型目級分類，在包含了鮟鱇目和魨形目之餘，其他小型目如菱鯛目、大眼鯛目、鯛形目、笛鯛目、松鯛目、蝴蝶魚目、白鯧目、銀鱸目都被整合進來，使9個地位未定的科有了目級分類。^[1]^[3]

2017年系統

在早前2017年Deepfin的系統，本目屬於棘鰭類鱸形亞類真鱸形系，依據傳統的形態學分類，本目曾歸類於廣義的鱸形目，但在實際親緣上，這一類群比鱸形目更接近魨形目及鮟鱇目，2017年正式發表的《硬骨魚支序分類學》承認本目，銀鱗鯧科可能是本目的姐妹群，與笛鯛目、蝴蝶魚目等處於同一演化支上。^[4]^[5]

之前初步檢測認為本目與其它真鱸形系魚類的演化關係如下，包含當時其它地位未定各科的大致位置^[4]^[5]，不過，現在對這些分支的次序排列已知有所不同：
