第1裝甲師是英國陸軍的一支裝甲師，組建於1937年。該師由一名將級指揮官（GOC）統率，其接受上級指揮鏈下達的命令，並調動師屬部隊執行任務。除指揮師級戰術作戰外，該指揮官還負責督導參謀團隊及全師的行政、後勤、醫療、訓練與紀律事務[1]。自成立至1945年解散期間，該師共經歷八任常設將級指揮官。

1937年11月24日，經過多年爭議後該部隊以「機動師」名義成立[2][3]，1939年4月更名為第1裝甲師[4]。二戰爆發後，其下屬單位被陸續抽調增援其他部隊。1940年5月該師最終投入實戰，被派往法國參加法國戰役，6月通過「空中行動」撤回英國[5]。1941年底調往北非，參與西部沙漠戰役，先後經歷加扎拉戰役及兩次阿拉曼戰役[6][7][8]。1942年間，赫伯特·拉姆斯登（英語：Herbert Lumsden）[a]少將指揮該師時兩次負傷，亞歷山大·蓋特豪斯（英語：Alexander Gatehouse）[b]少將亦曾一次負傷。

該師隨後參加突尼斯戰役，直至1943年5月軸心國在北非戰敗[11]。此期間曾暫更名為「第1英國裝甲師」（1st British Armoured Division），以避免與同期作戰的美國第1裝甲師混淆。突尼斯戰事結束後，該師留駐北非至1944年。1944年5月調往意大利參與意大利戰役，8月下旬至9月底作為盟軍進攻哥德防線的一部分參加多次戰鬥[12][13]。由於英軍面臨兵員短缺危機，該師被選定解散以向其他部隊提供補充兵員。1944年10月移交最後所屬部隊指揮權後終止作戰編制，1945年1月11日正式解散[14][15][c]。
