第1装甲师是英国陆军的一支装甲师，组建于1937年。该师由一名将级指挥官（GOC）统率，其接受上级指挥链下达的命令，并调动师属部队执行任务。除指挥师级战术作战外，该指挥官还负责督导参谋团队及全师的行政、后勤、医疗、训练与纪律事务[1]。自成立至1945年解散期间，该师共经历八任常设将级指挥官。

1937年11月24日，经过多年争议后该部队以“机动师”名义成立[2][3]，1939年4月更名为第1装甲师[4]。二战爆发后，其下属单位被陆续抽调增援其他部队。1940年5月该师最终投入实战，被派往法国参加法国战役，6月通过“空中行动”撤回英国[5]。1941年底调往北非，参与西部沙漠战役，先后经历加扎拉战役及两次阿拉曼战役[6][7][8]。1942年间，赫伯特·拉姆斯登（英语：Herbert Lumsden）[a]少将指挥该师时两次负伤，亚历山大·盖特豪斯（英语：Alexander Gatehouse）[b]少将亦曾一次负伤。

该师随后参加突尼斯战役，直至1943年5月轴心国在北非战败[11]。此期间曾暂更名为“第1英国装甲师”（1st British Armoured Division），以避免与同期作战的美国第1装甲师混淆。突尼斯战事结束后，该师留驻北非至1944年。1944年5月调往意大利参与意大利战役，8月下旬至9月底作为盟军进攻哥德防线的一部分参加多次战斗[12][13]。由于英军面临兵员短缺危机，该师被选定解散以向其他部队提供补充兵员。1944年10月移交最后所属部队指挥权后终止作战编制，1945年1月11日正式解散[14][15][c]。
