NGC 6051是位于巨蛇座的一个巨大椭圆星系,距离地球4.53亿光年,这意味着,考虑到其表观尺寸,该星系的直径约为250,000光年[1]。它是名为AWM 4的化石系统中一个松弛的贫穷星系团内最亮的团星系[2]。这个星系团由至少30个星系成员组成[3]。
观测的历史
[编辑]NGC 6051是让·玛里·爱德华·史提芬在1881年6月20日发现的。根据约翰·路易·埃米尔·德雷耳的说法,他将其描述为一个微弱的小圆形物体,中间有一个明亮的核,东南方有一颗10等的恒星[4]。SIMBAD和里昂-默登外星系数据库(英语:Lyon-Meudon Extragalactic Database,HyperLEDA]]将NGC 6051登录为IC 4588[5][6],但根据哈罗德·科温的说法,这是两个独立的星系[7]。奥沙利文及其同事(2011)将它们视为独立的实体,NGC 6051是星系团中心的主导星系[8]。
特征
[编辑]NGC 6051是一个cD型星系[9]。与AWM 4中的其它星系相比,它的亮度要高得多[10],具有低面亮度轮廓[3],但没有恒星包层[11]。
NGC 6051中的核心被认为是活跃星系,它是一个电波星系[12]。它被归类为法纳罗夫-莱利分类 I型和II型混合的过渡型。聚集著广角尾的强力电波源[13][14],NGC 6051包含两个反射对称的摆动电波喷流和从其电波核心出现约80Kpc的巨大电波瓣[15]。对于这种活动星系核(AGN)活动,最被接受的理论是存在一个超大质量黑洞。基于MBH-MK相关性。NGC 6051中心黑洞的质量估计为9.57 ± 0.02 M⊙[16]。
根据射流与反射流的亮度比率,NGC 6051的中心约10kpc喷流区域可能更靠近天空平面。根据对逐渐变陡的光谱指数的分析,喷流和波瓣的寿命估计为1.6亿年,这表明NGC 6051的来源很古老[15][13]。
一项研究在NGC 6051中心区域产生的夹带气体中发现了铁的痕迹,其质量约为1.4 x 106 M⊙。当能量量为〜4.5 x 1057 erg时,气体可能被星系的喷流从星系中输送出来,在一定程度上丰富了星系团内介质[14]。
