運動The New media Art Movement in China

Fei Jun(中文:費俊)is a Chinese new media artist and interaction designer, renowned for his interdisciplinary practice of exploring the relationship between technology and society. His works cover installation art, interaction design, video and social intervention projects, focusing on how technology reconstructs human perception methods and urban life experiences. As an important practitioner in the field of new media art in China, Fei Jun's creations often combine critical thinking with poetic expression, attempting to redefine the interaction logic between people and space, technology and culture in the digital age.

Early Life and Education

[編輯]

Born in 1970 in Shashi, Hubei Province, Fei Jun graduated from the Affiliated High School of Hubei Academy of Fine Arts in 1988. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Printmaking from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in 1992 and later pursued an MFA in Integrated Electronic Arts at Alfred University’s School of Art and Design (USA) in 2005. [1]Currently, he serves as a professor and doctoral supervisor in the Art and Technology program at CAFA’s School of Design, while also acting as the Creative Director of the art collective ART+TECH. He has curated international exhibitions such as the Beijing Media Art Biennale.[2]

Artistic Practice and Core Philosophy

[編輯]

As an artist, designer, and educator, Fei Jun explores narratives within hybrid spaces where the virtual and physical converge. His works employ cutting-edge technologies (e.g., AI, biometrics, VR/AR) to push the boundaries of artistic expression, emphasizing audience interaction. His practice often addresses societal issues, including mental health and ecological awareness.[3][2][1]

International Visions and Cross-cultural Practice

[編輯]

Fei Jun, a leading figure in China’s contemporary art and technology integration, has consistently demonstrated a global perspective and cross-cultural engagement through his artistic practice, educational initiatives, and international collaborations. Fei envisions art as a catalyst for redefining global narratives in the digital age. He argues that AI should augment, not replace, human creativity, advocating for art that preserves the "uncomputable" aspects of humanity. By leveraging technologies like AR and AI, Fei seeks to create immersive experiences that dissolve geographic and cultural barriers, as seen in his Life Garden project, which reimagined "metaverse" concepts through an Eastern philosophical lens.

A mobile app designed for the China Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale, linking ancient Chinese bridges with Venetian counterparts via AR, reimagining cultural heritage in the digital age.

2023 CCTV Spring Festival Gala Visual Design

As Visual Director, Fei drew inspiration from the Song Dynasty lyric form "Man Ting Fang" to create a traditional Chinese color system, integrating AR/XR technologies for immersive stage experiences like "Man Ting Fang: Colors of China", which used AI-generated dynamic visuals.[4]

Water Says (水曰)》 (2021)

An interactive installation where viewers’ voices trigger ripples in a virtual pond, exploring symbiosis between nature and technology.[5][3]
