都卜勒參數

都卜勒參數（英語：Doppler parameter），或都卜勒致寬參數（英語：Doppler broadening parameter）是天體物理中常用來標示天體譜線寬度的物理量，通常用字母$b$表示。其定義為

$b={\sqrt {2}}\sigma ,$

其中$\sigma$是一維速度彌散(Draine 2011，第58頁)。通過這一參數，產生該譜線的粒子的高斯速度分布可被表示為

$p={\frac {1}{\sqrt {2\pi }}}{\frac {1}{\sigma }}e^{-(v-v_{0})^{2}/2\sigma ^{2}}={\frac {1}{\sqrt {\pi }}}{\frac {1}{b}}e^{-(v-v_{0})^{2}/b^{2}},$

其中$p\mathrm {d} v$表示粒子的視向速度處於$[v,v+\mathrm {d} v]$區間內的概率。

譜線的寬度也經常用半峰全寬（FWHM）來表示，其與都卜勒參數的轉換關係為

$\mathrm {FWHM} =2{\sqrt {2\ln 2}}\sigma =2{\sqrt {\ln 2}}b\approx 1.665b$.

分布

萊曼α森林中的吸收線的都卜勒參數通常分布在 10–100 km s⁻¹，其中位數約為$b_{m}=36\ \mathrm {km\ s} ^{-1}$，且隨紅移遞減(Kim et al. 1997)。通過分析哈伯太空望遠鏡上的宇宙起源頻譜儀觀測的一批低紅移類星體的數據得到都卜勒參數的中位數約為$33\ \mathrm {km\ s} ^{-1}$（Danforth et al. 2016，Gaikwad et al. 2017）。
