2024年1月28日，伊朗支持的什葉派民兵組織伊拉克伊斯蘭抵抗組織發射的一架無人機襲擊了約旦東北部魯克班的美軍基地哨所22號塔。爆炸導致3名美國士兵死亡，47人受傷。[3]
這是自以色列—哈馬斯戰爭開始以來，美軍首次被敵方炮火炸死。喬·拜登總統譴責這次襲擊是「卑鄙的」，並承諾在適當的時候進行報復[4]；其後，美國空軍於2月2日，派出兩架B-1轟炸機，空襲敘利亞及伊拉克境內的伊朗陣地[5][6]。伊朗否認與這次襲擊有任何關連。[7]
