Nigger
Nigger（中文中的翻譯是黑鬼[1]）是英語中的一個專門冒犯黑人的種族歧視詞語，原本這個詞是白人對黑人的貶義性稱呼[2]。梅里厄姆-韋伯斯特在線詞典認為該詞「也許是英語中最具冒犯性和煽動性的種族歧視詞彙」。 [3] 牛津英語詞典表示，「這個詞是英語中最具爭議的詞之一，不管在哪種語境提到這個詞，這個詞都容易令人感到冒犯[4]。辛普森案中的一位檢察官表示該詞是「英語中最污穢、最骯髒、最令人厭惡的詞」。 [5]
非裔美國人之間有些人開玩笑時也會互相稱呼對方是Nigger，非裔美國人彼此稱呼Nigger不一定具有冒犯含義， [6][3]但一些美國黑人作家仍然反對黑人內部使用這個詞」。 [3][7][8][9]
歷史
[編輯]Nigger的詞源來自於拉丁語中的形容詞niger ，意為「黑色的」。 [3]它最初只是一個相對中性的詞彙。從18世紀中葉開始，該詞開始變得貶義，到19世紀中葉該詞已經讓黑人感到十分冒犯。而在蓄奴時代，美國南方普遍用Nigger稱呼非洲裔美國人[1][6][3][10]。
從20世紀下半葉開始，大眾幾乎很少再用這個詞。 [3]從20世紀90年代開始， [2] 當人們不得不提及Nigger這個詞（例如提到有人用Nigger冒犯黑人）時，眾人開始用"the N-word"指代Nigger。[11]
