Pleasure is the fifteenth studio album by Taiwanese pop icon Jolin Tsai (蔡依林), released in June 2025. Marking her return after a six-year hiatus since 2018’s Ugly Beauty, the album has been highly anticipated and is considered one of the most awaited releases of the year. The lead single, also titled 「Pleasure,」 was released on May 28, 2025, and quickly topped various music charts, including KKBOX’s real-time rankings and QQ Music’s daily sales chart.
Background and Concept
The concept for Pleasure originated in 2022 when Tsai watched a documentary that sparked her curiosity about the multifaceted nature of pleasure. She began exploring the idea that pleasure encompasses more than just physical satisfaction, delving into its psychological and emotional dimensions. The album thematically revolves around the seven deadly sins—pride, envy, wrath, gluttony, lust, sloth, and greed—portraying them as natural responses to human desires rather than inherent vices.
Production and Composition
Tsai took on the roles of producer and primary songwriter for Pleasure, collaborating with artists such as Richard Craker, Ross Golan, and Valentina Ploy. The album features 11 tracks that blend electronic genres like techno and house, creating a soundscape that reflects the album’s exploration of desire and self-discovery. Notably, the production process was meticulous; one track underwent 34 revisions to meet Tsai’s standards.
Visual and Artistic Direction
The album’s visual elements are rich with symbolism. Promotional images depict Tsai adorned with a 「Medusa’s Crown of Desire,」 featuring red snakes symbolizing temptation and curiosity. The single’s cover art shows Tsai with a 「Pleasure」 tattoo on her finger and braids resembling chains, representing the tension between desire and guilt. These visuals align with the album’s themes of confronting and embracing one’s inner desires.
Commercial Performance
Upon its release, the single 「Pleasure」 achieved significant commercial success. It reached number one on KKBOX’s real-time charts within an hour and amassed nearly 100,000 views on YouTube Music by 10 a.m. the same day. In mainland China, the song sold over 100,000 copies on QQ Music within 12 hours, earning triple platinum status and making Tsai the fastest Taiwanese female artist to achieve this milestone.
Live Performances
Tsai is scheduled to perform 「Pleasure」 live for the first time at the Hito Music Awards on June 21, 2025, where she will serve as the closing act.
Track Listing
Pleasure comprises 11 tracks, each exploring different facets of desire and human emotion. While the full tracklist has not been disclosed, the album includes the lead single 「Pleasure」 and a prelude track titled 「Pleasure: Prelude,」 which sets the thematic tone for the album.
Release History
Pleasure was released globally in June 2025, with the lead single 「Pleasure」 debuting on May 28, 2025. The album is available through digital downloads and streaming platforms under the Eternal Music Production Company Ltd. label.
