The present-day museum label reads:

In the fifteenth century, Admiral Cheng Ho gave the bell to the Sultan of Pasai during one of his ‘friendship’ expedition[s] to Aceh. In the sixteenth century, when Pasai [was] conquered by the Sultanate of Aceh, Sultan Ali Mughayat Syah brought the bell to the Aceh courtyard. In the seventeenth century Sultan Iskandar Muda of Aceh put the bell on his warship called the Cakra Donya. That is how the bell got its name. In the nineteenth century the bell was [suspended from] a tree and located in front of the regional Dutch office in Kutaradja. Then it was moved and became [part of] the collection of The Aceh Museum in December 1915.
